Does anyone else find this picture as nauseating as I do? She's 59, he's 35, they just got married. He's carrying her big ass around like she's a 30 20 year old.. she's probably wishing she was even a 40 something year old, and he's probably hoisting this old heifer in the air while thinking about all that beautiful money he has access to now. Jeez Louise, whatever floats your boat, I guess...

Obviously, old men aren't the only ones that make fools of themselves over younger women. It also works in reverse.

My only hope is that is that this young guy really ticks off the donald. Notice I won't even capitalize his name. What a piece of sleaze he is....

Can you imagine the pressure this woman is under to look good for this young piece of beefcake? The thought of rolling out of bed early in the morning, to put on full warpaint so that this stud muffin doesn't see you au natural is exhausting. A lot of you that read this blog are of a "certain age" like "moi," and ladies, my bedhead look in the early morning is not good, hell, I don't even look good in full drag at this age.... Oh, it makes me tired just thinking about it. And after looking at this picture, she needs to lay off the cavier a bit, and get rid of some of that boo-tay, heaven forbid he should pull a groin muscle whilst heaving her up in his arms.....

And you might be thinking, "oh, you're just jealous." I assure you I'm not. Seriously, a young guy like this has zero appeal to me. I think she just looks desperate.

The family is home, life is hectic, we all love Mexican food, but the kids complain that we don't have good Mexican in Heavensville. I had read several reviews for a restaurant called Acapulco's, so we gave it a try last night. Horrid, horrid, horrid. Jeez Louise, the reviewers must have been the immediate family. It was a semi-busy restaurant, but the food had no flavor. N-O flavor. Unseasoned ground beef, watery meals, bleccht, so naturally since it was my idea, I'm now persona non gratis in deciding where we eat. Can't really blame them, either...

The moral of this story, you can't believe everything you read on the net!!!

More on Ironing....

I got a new Williams-Sonoma catalog in the mail this week. You all know these catalogs are one of my favorite things in the whole world, and as I was pouring over every single page, while sitting at the bar, with a steaming mug of coffee, I found something that took me back in time. It was their Miele Rotary Iron. Oh my, when I was a little girl, my Aunt Hazel had an ironer, and it was the most amazing contraption. It was so big she could sit at a chair in front of it and feed sheets thru that thing, and they would come out perfectly ironed, totally flat.

I was standing at my fold-out-from-the-wall ironing board just now ironing pillowcases. Yes, I still iron pillowcases, it's one of my quirks, I love freshly ironed cases. Anyhoo, I was thinking about Aunt Hazel and her amazing ironing machine, and how it has evolved to what it is today from Williams-Sonoma.

It's evolved to the price of $1,999 that's what it's done - yep, $1,999 for that Miele Rotary Iron. Crazy expensive, huh? Aunt Hazel's was a lot bigger than this one, the size of the Miele isn't that large at all compared to hers. Auntie was ahead of her time....

And what did I just have to buy from this month's catalog... Well, actually two things, both inexpensive, and Ryan and Lindsay picked them up for me at WS in Lexington today. The first thing is their new non-aerosol salad mister. I had one of the pressurized misters a few years back and it didn't work worth crap, hopefully this one is better, cause it has pump action, and a filter so that the herbs and garlic slivers don't clog it. The second purchase was an OXO Stainless Steel Soap Dispensing Brush . I've had these before, was introduced to them by Tonia several years back, but mine are long gone and it was time for a new one. I'm a big fan of OXO products, originally made for handicapped people, OXO products always are easy to grip, easy to handle and great quality...

And, if you haven't yet bought the Vegetable Chopper from Williams-Sonoma, the one I've blogged about many times, springtime is a great time to pick one up. Nisha bought one a few months ago, and she says it's just about her favorite thing in the kitchen. It's one of my very favorite kitchen gadgets, and you all know I'm the Gadget Queen. They even have a video showing how to use it. I didn't buy the mini chopper, just the regular sized $29.95 one. It comes with two blades, one of which does a really small dice, I've never felt I needed the mini one.

And that's my day. It's cloudy and low 50's, not a great day in Heavensville. Let's hope tomorrow is warmer...

What the heck????

Sure you do, it's Rose Marie, from The Dick Van Dyke Show. And why am I making the point that this poor lady is really old???

Well, I'm showing you her picture and telling you this because of what I got in the mail today. Oh, this is so depressing, I can't begin to tell you how depressing. I got this letter from Trans America Insurance Company Senior Security Final Expense Program.

They are trying to get me to buy insurance to help pay for my final expenses. MY FINAL EXPENSES!!!!!! I'm only 58, I'm still a pup somewhat spry dog. Why are sending me this crap? Now Rose Marie, she's old - send it to her!!!

My Final Expenses...... I don't think so, oh no, not for years yet, NOT FOR Y-E-A-R-S!!!!!!!!!!

Things you miss when you don't go to church...

And let's talk about ironing....

Since Mother always worked at the drugstore when I was a child, she didn't have a lot of extra time, and everything had to be ironed, no permanent press in the fifties, so she had an "ironing lady." Her name was Mabel Thompson, and she fell on hard times, living with her brother, the road comissioner, Big Bob Thompson, ironing for people for a living.

Mabel charged by the bushel basket, and Mother would take a basket full of cotton clothes, and the wire hangers to her house weekly. She would drive up, I would get out and run the clothes to her door, and when we picked them up, Mother would go in to pay.

And the charge for ironing this bushel basket full of clothes? Seventy-five cents. Can you believe that, seventy-five cents. For all that work. Amazing, huh???

I'm obsessed with clotheslines...

Hooterville sent me this earlier today. It brought back so many memories - every word of this is so true!!!!!

THE BASIC RULES

1. You had to wash the clothes line before hanging any clothes. Walk the
length of each line with a damp cloth around the line.

2. You had to hang the clothes in a certain order and always hang whites
with whites and hang them first.

3. You never hung a shirt by the shoulders, always by the tail. What
would the neighbors think?

4. Wash day on a Monday...........never hang clothes on the weekend or
Sunday for heaven's sake!

5. Hang the sheets and towels on the outside lines so you could hide your
'unmentionables' in the middle.

6. It didn't matter if it was sub zero weather.............clothes would
'freeze dry.'

7. Always gather the clothes pins when taking down dry clothes. Pins left
on the line was 'tacky'.

8. If you were efficient, you would line the clothe s up so that each item
did not need two clothes pins, but shared one of the clothes pins with the
next
washed item.

9. Clothes off of the line before dinner time, neatly folded in the clothes
basket and ready to be ironed.

10. IRONED?????????? Well, that's a whole other subject.

I keep meaning to tell you about this....

I've tried a badzillion different kinds of mousse, trying to get something to lift and make my hair look thicker, and with not so good results, until now. I finally found a product I like that makes my hair look thicker and gives it volume without leaving it heavy or stiff and hard to style.

Dove Body & Lift, Volumizing Moisturizing Mousse - this stuff is GREAT!! It's a must try, trust me, I've tried them all and nothing has worked as well for me as this has. Grab yourself a bottle next time you are at the drugstore. I'm going to try more of their hair products, since I like this so much... It's a good thing!!!

Ohhhhhh, cats....

Robin commented about the bebe ducks being safe from cats. And we do have a neighborhood cat, Jasper, that roams at night. I never thought of that, oh I hope he doesn't bother the nest!!!

I guess I should explain, that like me, Jan, aka, "Milly," "Daisy," etc. Maggie Moo also wears many hats. She is also known as "Mewster Brewster," "Maggin' Waggin'" and when she's in trouble, it's her birth name, "Margaret MooLatte"...

If were really lucky were' going to have petite canards....

I've been seeing two mallards in our front yard for a few weeks now. The neighbors said there was a nest across the drive from us, and sure enough...

Momma Duck is nesting - she threw out this egg, it must have been a dud. My neighbor, Julie, can see her through her bedroom window, and says she is sitting on 6-8 eggs.

If were really lucky and nobody disturbs her nest, we will have a new family in the neighborhood...

Oh how fun, bebe ducks... Wonder what the Maggin' Waggin' will think of that???

My day in pictures.....

It was a beautiful spring day in Heavensville. Marti and I went to an auction early afternoon, then Trish and I haunted the garden centers. V called to tell me about boxwood, I crammed five of them in my car, no some guy did it for us, they were so heavy Trish and I could barely left them on to the flat bed cart. Maggie and London went along, Maggie quickly got the hang of flirting with people so they would pet her and ooh and aah over her... She had a blast. London always gets tons of attention, she's such a cute little pipsqueak - it was just a perfect day in Heavensville.

Hooterville just sent me this link on how to crochet this tote from plastic grocery bags. Why she sent it to me, I don't know, this woman won't even sew on a button, much less crochet a tote for her groceries. The thought of it makes me howl with laughter, actually.

I'm not much better - personally I think it's butt ugly, I doubt seriously that she likes it either, but to each his own.

Linds got me totes from Fresh Market that are actually cute! Maybe I need to share them with the Hoot...

Yes, I'm still eating off that damned salad plate!!!!!

I'm eating so many Boca Burgers and beans that I'm gonna explore, and I'm walking my mile faithfully every day, trying not to think about anything sweet and lemony. And we have two days of rain forecasted and V and I were going to have a girls day out Friday!!!

But I do have that new bed, so I need to quit whining and count my blessings!!!!! But I'm going to bed hungry!!! I haven't exactly been flooded by emails from the rest of you telling me that you, too, are eating off salad plates this week. The closest I've gotten is Barb telling me she is loving Weight Watchers and Robin was having a go on the elliptical machine the other day. The rest of you are suspiciously quiet. Wonder why???

They delivered my bed!!!!!

I love the bed. They delivered it today, and I think the style of it and the rustic gold finish makes it look like it's been in my bedroom forever. I love the old world look, I'm still playing with the bedding, but I'm really pleased.

A typical spring day in Heavensville...

It's warm, it's soggy, we have sporadic bursts of sunshine, then more clouds, more rain... The daffy's are in full bloom, the grass is green, the magnolia's are starting to bloom, and I'm being nostalgic again. Seems like I always am in the spring.

Hubby and I were driving thru the country today, I was thinking of my childhood and how on a warm, blustery day like today, I would be out in the yard, and if I was young enough that Mother still had control over me, I'm sure she would either have had me in a headscarf or cotton in my ears, trying to keep me from having one of the earaches that plagued me as a child. Egads, how I hated headscarves -After the age of about ten I wouldn't be caught dead in one, then or now!

Anyhoo, we would be picking up sticks out of the yard, bundling them to put in the burning barrel on a non-windy day and raking leaves away from the new growth of perennials emerging from their winter sleep. My beloved ditch would be coming alive, the red winged blackbirds that I love so much would be singing, and Topsy, my cocker spaniel, would be nipping at my heels...

And yes, that really is my ditch in the picture. Hooterville and I go past my childhood home often to take pictures of it. It's a constant in my ever changing world, the ditch is always the same... We're both hugely sentimental about it, as you all well know, as I talk about it often. Who would have thought in my childhood that it would mean so much to me as an adult. I've loved it always...

You don't have to cough up the big bucks, you can get them for free from Open Office. Yep, it's true, all free, all great applications, totally interchangeable with and very similar to Microsoft Office. did I mention that they are free? And how much would you pay for Microsoft Office 2007- eeks, major $$..

And Linux developed a program called GIMP. It's a Photoshop type application for graphics and pictures. It's also free, works with Windows, you can find it HERE.

Cousin Pam sent me this picture of my Great Grandparents, Lougena and George Doss. It's believed to be their wedding photograph, November 8, 1878. Family history is a wonderful thing, isn't it?

Are you a cherry lover, like me???

I've eaten Smuckers Sugar Free (10 calories per tablespoon) preserves for a few years now. Orange Marmalade, Strawberry, Peach, Blackberry, Apricot, they're all okay, but nothing special, until now...

I'm a HUGE fan of anything cherry and the good people at Smuckers have recently introduced Sugar Free Cherry Preserves. Same calorie count, and IMO, an amazing taste considering it's practically no calories.

So far I've just had them on a bagel and on a whole grain english muffin, yes, in my salad plate, but I'm thinking they might be really good spooned on a roasted chicken breast.

I should have posted this on the Eating Right Board, but didn't want you all to miss it. It's a good thing. ~ jan
