DIY Dry Dog Shampoo that WORKS!

Ds

Boy, do I have a great tip for you.  This recipe is floating all over the net so on a whim I gave it a try.  It’s all natural, non-irritating and I pinkie swear, it will make your furry friend smell amazing.

It takes 5 minutes to make, put it in a shaker jar and you’re done!

1/2 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Cornstarch
3-5 drops of Essential Oil, I used 4 drops of lavender

Whisk all together, I put mine in a spice jar, sprinkle it on Maggie, brush her and she smells so good.  The smell doesn’t dissipate quickly either, it lingers on her  fur for a couple of days …  What a find!

Amazing what a good blow dry does for a girl...

Photo

It was bath day yesterday at our house and Mags was looking pretty scruffy.  She’s a little trooper though, so patient when I comb the snarls out.  She’s all clean, getting ready to dry her in this picture, and she’s looking a little rough at this point.

Photo

She’s dry now, that topknot is pretty wild.

And just look at her now, sweet little dog.  Yeah, I know, she’s gorgeous.  Isn’t it awesome what a good hair day does for a little girl dog...

Sometimes a girl just doesn't want a bath….

Photo

You're looking at one p*ssed off little Yorkie.  Mags was just not in the mood for her bath and  groom this morning.  We trudged out to the garage, I put her on the grooming table and she proceeded to wiggle and squirm all the time I was blowing her dry and trimming her while  I tried, unsuccessfully I might add, to show some authority and make her sit still.  I kept reminding her that I was the human and she was the dog, and she had to quit fidgeting or she would end up with a crooked beard.  I'm not exactly a whiz with the sciz, even on the best of days!    Trust me on this,  it was not one of our finer moments.

Even when we were finishing up she wasn't a happy camper.  She kept giving me the evil eye, and if she wasn't so little I have no doubt that she would have jumped off the grooming table and ran for the hills.  And this isn't Maggie, she usually enjoys being groomed.   I know what the problem was, though, it was 8am, and she likes to sleep in.  Silly little dog...

Oh, but look at her now.  She's a happy girl, lying on her favorite pillow.  She can be a stinker sometimes, but then she is just so darned cute I forgive her anything...

Huh, what crayon???

Mags

Most dogs eat off the floor, pick things up, put them in their mouth, but  that has never been Maggie.  She just doesn't.  You drop food, she ignores it, she doesn't sniff for crumbs, nada, zilch.

Well, that has all changed since Abby's arrival.  Three year olds leave lots of things behind, things that would entice any little dog, and apparently Mags has decided that she likes what Abby likes.  She has a particular fascination with crayons.  Why, I don't know, but she licks them, she carries them around in her mouth, and her human Mom is not a fan.  I wouldn't think crayons would be toxic, after all they are for kids, but I don't like her carrying them around in her mouth.

Abby is good about not dropping things, but she's not perfect, so occasionally I find "things."  This afternoon Maggie had dibs on an apple slice from Abby's Happy Meal, and she wasn't giving it up.  She just follows Abby around seeing what treasure she can eat and/or play with.  Kids and dogs, is there anything cuter….

Miss Minnie Smartest Little Yorkie I've Ever Seen

This little dog is less than six months old.  I am absolutely, positively astonished at how smart she is.  When my Yorkies were six months old, I was still trying to teach them not to pee in the floor.

If you're a dog lover, you must see this video.  It is one of the sweetest things I've ever posted, well except for that precious two year Emma and her horse Cinnamon...

Oh, this tiny little fur baby brings back so many memories of Maggie, with her wispy hair.  She reminds me of my friend Diane's Miley, as well.  I do adore Yorkies...

Maggie, snoozing...

NewImage

I put this in my Twitter feed, but it should be explained.  John bought Deanna this exact same throw last year and every time we go to their house, Maggie just loves it.  So I asked for it at Christmas, not thinking they could still find it, but they did!

Well, Miss Maggie Moo is one happy little Yorkie.  As you can see, she buries her face in it, and sleeps her life away.  I don't know how she breathes, but she manages..

What would our lives be like without our sweet pets.  Maggie brightens my world every single day of my life...

Always dreaming….

NewImage

When it's summer, it's hot, I dream of fall.  Then I'm tired of fall and dream of winter.  Now I'm tired of snow and dreaming of spring. We had a taste of it today, sunny temps, out and about on Milly with the Maggin Waggin.

In case you're interested, spring begins at 7:02AM, on March 20th.  That's not very long….

Life is good...

Maggie Moo aka...

208717 1018980087186 6996 n

200297 1018983207264 2265 n

I was just checking Pioneer Woman's blog and she had just posted an entry about her dog Charlie's nicknames.  And since I'm such a Pioneer Woman groupie, and short on time this morning, Dorothy's  going to follow down the yellow brick road and do the same with Maggie.

The first picture is baby Maggie at four months, the second is one of my favorites of her all wrapped up in my hoodie, just look at that face!!!!

And now for her nicknames, because like Ree, I seldom call her by her real name, why do that when there are so many choices.  And her real name?  Margaret MooLatte, aka Maggie Moo, however, she also goes by...

* Maggin Waggin'
* Horse Feathers
* Punky Brewster
* Snookums
* Shake 'n Bake
* Punkin Pot
* Majjin Wajjin*
* Maga-Mooooooo, Dog of my Dreams

And my favorite of all, "Little Dog Child"

That's a lot of names to give such a small dog.

That is all...

A cheap thrill…

photo(42)

So I go to Wally World, spend a total of $5 on five cheap plastic tubs to organize Maggie’s dog clothes, and this is how it turned out.  Yep, I got that whole pile of clothes that was on my bed into these five containers.  Who woulda thunk it.

Doesn’t take a lot to make me happy, does it?

Now if I could just find the right containers to fit inside my jewelry drawers.  I went to Dollar Tree, thought maybe I could find something there, I didn’t find any containers, but I did find this.

photo (11)

What the heck???? It’s 99 cents and it’s 99% accurate.  Simply amazing what they have at the Dollar Tree.

Just had to share that…

Now I’m organizing the dog’s clothes!

Photo1 (10)

I’m in an organizing frenzy.  My closet is finished, jewelry isn’t, I’m struggling with what I’m going to line my drawers with, so now I’m tackling Maggie’s clothes.  I’m going to line a dresser drawer with plastic tubs and put her clothes in the tubs.  Why?  Because, the secret to organization is containment.  How many times have I preached that on here?  And why do I get in huge messes anyway?  Because I have a messy gene, that’s why!  Egads, I would hate to think what everything would look like if I didn’t contain it!

Actually, this is pretty embarrassing.  This little five pound Yorkie has this big pile of clothes and I don’t even let her wear them that much, because the friction of fur against fabric mats her really badly and it’s a pain to untangle.

So why did I just buy her another winter coat?  A cute little red fleece one with white lambs wool around the neck and sleeve openings, oh, it’ so Christmasy and pretty.

I buy her all these clothes because she’s little and cute and looks adorable in everything I put on her, that’s why. Embarrassed smile

And you’re probably thinking, “dog clothes are expensive, why does she spend all that money on clothes for her dog.”  Well, I’m a bargain shopper, and most of her clothes come from Tuesday Morning, because they have great doggie duds for $5.99-$6.99-$7.99.  Cute, cute things and you can’t beat the price.  In fact, last week, they had so many cute styles and somebody had bought all of the size Smalls, there wasn’t a Small in the store.  And, in all fairness, I’ve been doing this for years now, it’s not like I replenish her wardrobe every year. Maggie is six now, I’ve bought her clothes since she was a pup, and a few of the things belonged to Munchie, my first Yorkie, and some of them I bought for sweet Mollie.  I’m trying to justify the pile, can you tell?

Oh, she does have one drop dead gorgeous pale pink cashmere sweater from Neiman Marcus.  No, I didn’t spend all that money for a dog sweater, but my neighbor, the 94 year old lady with the Pomeranian does, and this was too little for Cha-Cha, so Maggie inherited it.  And every girl needs one dazzling, beautiful item in their closet drawer, right?

Actually it was probably a good thing somebody had bought all of the size Small or the pile would have grown even bigger! They had the cutest little red plaid coat with a corduroy collar and a cream quilted lining, no Small to be had,  so I bought it in an XS, hoping it would work, but it was too little for Mags, so Trish bought it for her London who just weighs 3 lbs.  It looked adorable on her, too.  London has a truckload of clothes, also.  And I hate to think how many Diane’s cutey patootie Miley has.  I’m not the only crazy dog lady, I’m in good company.

And speaking of winter coats, she has a purple one and suede one with a fur hoodie that aren’t in this pile.

So, now I’m on the hunt for those!  Still going to tell you all about Flip ‘n Fold and post closet pix.

Ma’am, I’d like to add something to that order…

maggs

Could I have an organic doggie biscuit please.  What???  You don’t have organic doggie biscuits??? Well drats!!!

Okay, I’ll take a small chicken breast, grilled with no oil and chopped into small pieces, hold the bun, no fries and a glass of water please, lots of ice, no straw.  And would you ask the manager about carrying those biscuits, after all I do come here often.

Thank you very much.  Have a nice day…  Smile with tongue out

Maggie, you gotta love her…

I’ve had the 24 hour ick.  It was bad, but I’ll spare you the details.  I spent the entire day in bed yesterday with Maggie taking care of me.  Well, she did!

She was either laying on top of me or pressed into my side, often getting up, walking around me, and laying back down again.  At one point, she got up, put her paw on my cheek and rubbed it, then licked my chin and laid beside me just watching me.

Veronica nailed it when she said once that some dogs are more human than dog.  That’s Maggie.  Molly was in bed with me, too, she totally ignored me, but not Maggie.  And people wonder why I love her so much?  It’s not rocket science, people.  She’s pretty precious…
